TapDrive — Contact-Based Wireless Storage System

Project type

Hardware Innovation · Secure Wireless Storage R&D

Location

Hyderabad

TapDrive is an original hardware research project focused on redefining how portable data storage is accessed and secured.

Unlike conventional storage devices that rely on physical connectors or always-on wireless technologies, TapDrive is designed as a contact-based wireless storage system, enabling access only when intentionally docked or tapped on a dedicated base unit. This approach significantly reduces exposure to unauthorized access while maintaining high-speed data interaction.

The system is envisioned to operate exclusively in short-range, intentional-access scenarios, eliminating the need for traditional USB interfaces or continuous wireless broadcasting. All configuration, authentication, and management workflows are designed to occur through trusted companion systems rather than directly on the storage unit itself.

TapDrive is currently in the research and system design phase, with architectural decisions centered around security-first storage behavior, modular scalability, and future-ready data interaction models. Specific hardware, firmware, and communication implementations are intentionally undisclosed.
